Thursday September 20, 2018 we presented “Closing the Resume Gap” on behalf of the Iowa Women in Architecture (iaWia).
Growing evidence indicates that women are less likely to promote themselves in comparison to men within professional disciplines, including architecture. Studies show that women who don’t advocate for themselves aren’t seen as competent leaders, resulting in fewer women in leadership positions.
The gendered resume gap reflects differences in how women and men present themselves, not in their experience or credentials. This was a call to hiring managers to become aware of subconscious biases and provide alternate media platforms for applicants that complement their application package.
